I am a Christian, and we commit no wrongdoing.-Saint Blandina
The beasts sent to devour me inhale my stench of captivity. My crime is the belief in Jesus Christ.
Bound to a stake, the straps slice and blood runs in rivulets. But the creatures do not advance to tear my flesh. Is it my faithfulness that keeps me safe?
The remains of my earthly master are strewn at my feet. Animals gnash at him. I vomit bile down my breasts.
My captors return and remove my restraints. As I’m lead back to my cell, I overhear their plans. I’m to be roasted alive. But my devotion to Him won’t waver.

People like to trash Christians and religion in general for the horrible things done in the name of God or etc… and it always makes me sad that people fail to remember the lessons of history (ie, Christians were persecuted and then turned around and persecuted others). It’s sadder to note that when it all boils down and you take religion out of the equation, people are just horrible to each other. And we constantly invent new ways to be evil to each other.
Okay, I’ve bummed myself out now. Time to go find something nice about humanity.
So well written, though, darling. Really really well done.
Girl tell it!
Thank you for your kind words. I kinda liked writing this story too. Can’t wait to catch up on yours and all of our fellow writers.

keep all sharp objects away and grab a box of tissues before you read mine
Now I’m intrigued. Wink, wink.
Excellent piece Renee, the history of the world tells of horrific things done in the name of Christianity and of Christians doing to others. I enjoyed the powerful nature of your piece.
Thank you so much for your comment. I’m glad you found it powerful too. I found St. Blandina’s story fascinating.
Love, Renee
Wow. I liked it.
Thank you. I’m so glad.
The horrific things human can do.. in the past and today.. enjoyed the tale, and the bleak future of being roasted alive….
Yes the evil that humans can do to each other is awful. It’s interesting to note that Saint Blandina did NOT die by being roasted alive. Her captors actually had to stab her to death for her to finally succumb.
I’m glad you liked the story.

Very strong and defiant piece. Good work Renee
Thanks my love. How are you???
Can’t wait to read yours.

Im ok Renee.
Dear Renee,
I’ll refrain from expounding on Christians and man’s inhumanity to man since it’s been done already.
You captured both Blandina’s fear and strength. I have no more to add. Well done.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Dear Rochelle,
Thank you so much! I’m honored that you think it was good.

Dear Renee,
Loved your POV in this tale of savagery and faith. People make me pro-nuclear. Good work here.

I too learned the story of the martyr’s before writing mine and I am with Helena; people are horrible, in the name of god or whatever other reason they contrive.
Yes, people can be horrid. But they can also be kind. I believe that we’ve lost a lot of our barbarism as we’ve evolved. I hope that the human race will continue to do so. I think that there will be some shred in humanity in even the worst person. I may be a Pollyanna, or I pray that I am.

Excellently written, Renee. 🙂

You explored a dark side of humanity here. A brave and poetic thing to do. Good job, Renee.
Thank you so much. I appreciate your kind comment. It warms my heart.

This is so well written Renee, your descriptions highlight the savagery and cruelty so well.
It never ceases to amaze me the things that are done in the name of religion.

Thank you my sweet. I’m so happy you liked it, even if it was a rather sad piece.
The barbaric natures of those that came before us, never ceases to disgust and intrigue me.

And humankind is no less savage today. It’s just found different ways of roasting people alive/cutting their throats. I hope I’m wrong. I know I’m wrong. Statistically speaking, if Love wasn’t prevailing, the button would have been pushed a long time ago. I’m just an Anne of Green Gables! Great and gory story, well-written. Ann
My dear, I completely understand what you are saying. It frustrates me to no end what humans will do in the name of government and religion. I, like you believe that love will always beat out hate. I’m no Pollyanna, but I believe in the goodness of most people. I pray that they do the right thing. Every day.
Thanks for the kind comment about my story and everything else that you shared with me.
