Tunesday-Dear Daily Mail by Amanda “Fucking” Palmer

Amanda Fucking Palmer

I haven’t written a fucking word in over a week. I couldn’t even think of a good song to post for Tunesday. Then what appeared in my email inbox, but a lovely kiss off to the Daily Mail by one of my idols, Amanda Fucking Palmer.

I’ve posted a couple more of more of her videos, because, well, she’s fucking AWESOME!

Warning: Amanda is not for the faint of heart. Think that’s why I like her.

I’m hoping my words come back soon, because I promised a certain redhead that I’d write our story. Wink, wink.

Do It With a Rock Star

In my mind
In a future five years from now
I’m one hundred and twenty pounds
And I never get hung over
Because I will be the picture of discipline
Never minding what state I’m in
And I will be someone I admire
And it’s funny how I imagined
That I would be that person now
But it does not seem to have happened
Maybe I’ve just forgotten how to see
That I am not exactly the person that I thought I’d be

And in my mind
In the faraway here and now
I’ve become in control somehow
And I never lose my wallet
Because I will be the picture of of discipline
Never fucking up anything
And I’ll be a good defensive driver
And it’s funny how I imagined
That I would be that person now
But it does not seem to have happened
Maybe I’ve just forgotten how to see
That I’ll never be the person that I thought I’d be

And in my mind
When I’m old I am beautiful
Planting tulips and vegetables
Which I will mindfully watch over
Not like me now
I’m so busy with everything
That I don’t look at anything
But I’m sure I’ll look when I am older
And it’s funny how I imagined
That I could be that person now
But that’s not what I want
But that’s what I wanted
And I’d be giving up somehow
How strange to see
That I don’t wanna be the person that I want to be

And in my mind
I imagine so many things
Things that aren’t really happening
And when they put me in the ground
I’ll start pounding the lid
Saying I haven’t finished yet
I still have a tattoo to get
That says I’m living in the moment
And it’s funny how I imagined
That I could win this, win this fight
But maybe it isn’t all that funny
That I’ve been fighting all my life
But maybe I have to think it’s funny
If I wanna live before I die
And maybe it’s funniest of all
To think I’ll die before I actually see
That I am exactly the person that I want to be

Fuck yes
I am exactly the person that I want to be

Tunesday-Summertime Sadness

lana-del-rey-wallpaper-756

My brother Troy P.  at As Long as I’m Singing, told me that my blog lacks direction. Doesn’t he know by now that I like to fly by the seat of my pants? I like to write whatever the fuck falls out of my blonde head. In this case, I’ve relented and decided to take his advice.

I will do my level best to follow the format outlined below. I’m sure I’ll throw in some other stories and poems from time to time. As you know, I like to shake things up a bit.

Please follow Troy. I love his stories, and I know you will too.

(now to figure out how the hell to make my menus appear across the top of my page. I swear I’m getting too old for this shit!)

Today I’m featuring the song, Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey. Though I’d like to elaborate on the song meaning, I can’t. I’m pressed for time as this is a short work week.

Don’t forget I still love it when followers send me pictures. It’s fun to write stories to photo prompts and see how close I get to the real story.

Love you all so very much!!!

Help Me Make the Music of the Night

203542_128325120678450_1837932231_n

  • Aaron Von Allmen as Raul.
  • Lauren Mallie as Christine Daae.

What can I say? Madonna University in Livonia, MI nailed the production of The Phantom of the Opera. I was completely blown away. I saw the original cast in Toronto, Ontario Canada. I have to say, I’ve never seen anything like it. I was five months pregnant with Megan. She was so active during the damn show, I knew she was going to be a diva. Sure enough, I was right. She wasn’t a lead in this show, but was still involved. Her friends, they were fantastic. She talked them, and the show up so much that I knew it was going to be good.

Aaron was Raul. His tenor voice lilts on my shoulder like a butterfly. It kisses me gently and lifts my heart with its pure tone. He is a delight to listen to and a joy to see also. His portrayal as Raul was spot on. His burgeoning love of Christine is apparent as he kisses her gently at the end of their duets.

Lauren Mallorca as Christine. Now that young woman is an ingenue. Think of Me, and Angel of Music set me on the edge of my seat. I think my heart burst as she hit the high notes at the top of her register. She most definitely wins her place as the new diva in the opera company. Her insecurity in her ability wanes as the show progresses. Christine learns she is so much more than her voice, even though the phantom holds her in his heart and mind.

Andrew Lee Neer portrayed the Phantom. He’s a man with a garish face, but the mad genius to create such a voice that the opera world had never heard. The constant metamorphasis of his personality is frightening and then, heart wrenching. You want to hate him, but you love him, as he caresses the young Christine’s face. He breaks and molds her with his madness and almost drags her into his abyss. Ultimately, love wins and Raul and Christine make their way back from peril. The music of the night, the chandelier, or the paper mache music box that dredges up memories long dead along with the withering of the Paris opera house.

I was impressed with the ensemble during such songs as Masquerade. Barbara Wiltsie, the director, did a fabulous job of casting and blocking talented singers and dancers. Their voices blended perfectly, and the ballet company was exquisite. They weren’t perfect, but they weren’t supposed to be. It was fun to see them perform, and blunder. Also Kelly Ryan who was cast as Madame Giri was perfect. When she rapped her walking stick on the stage even I felt I needed to pay attention.

Thank you cast and crew of Madonna University’s production of The Phantom of the Opera. I hope next weekend is also sold out.

Bravo, bravo, bravissimo.

Tunesday-Deep Cuts ;-)

Heard this on the radio on my snowy drive into work this morning. It put an instant smile on my face. Some of my readers may know why. It was the first song played at my wedding reception by the band that we hired. Yes, we had a band, not a DJ.

I remember my silly and drunk friends sat in the corner of the reception hall. They scrawled the words, ‘play Led Zeppelin’ on Chinet dinner plates and held them over their heads. Little did they know that the band we hired would do just. With that song, the party started and went on into the wee hours. The alcohol flowed and the dance floor was always full. Roger Darling got drunk and showed me his underwear. I hiked my dress up and showed him my ass. I drove us home that night. He was hammered, sitting in the front seat with his feet hanging out of the open window. The night was balmy. The smoke from our cigarettes wafted in the breeze created  by the cross draft.

We married on Memorial Day weekend. Our parents were concerned that attendance at the party would be light. 550 people came to celebrate. I guess they needn’t have worried.

This one takes me back to when I was a 13. Sitting with Andrea in her living room and getting high. Hey, I started early. I was wild and unsupervised. I’m still wild. Still unsupervised. I don’t get high though. That part of my life is over.

Andrea came back to me this year. After 30 years, we found each other. She gives me shelter. I do the same for her.

Hmmmm, what is the explanation I should give for this song? Rob and Lionel singing Brick House. I don’t think I need to say a thing. Go and get your groove on.

Happy Tunesday Lovies.

Never Think-What’s in Your Heart

305641-robert-pattinson

I’m enamored with Robert Pattinson. I would wander around Hollywood for days just to get a glimpse of him. I will write about him one of these days. Tonight I post a beautiful song that he recorded a few years ago. The first time I heard it, I cried. Then I swooned. I’ve always had a soft spot for British men.

Enough. Play the video and listen to the lyrics. Let them haunt you. Make you feel. Long for love lost. Someday I’ll write a story to it. Tonight I’m too damn tired to do so. I’ll listen to the words though and feel every one of them. I’ll fall into bed and dream a sweet dream. Of beauty and peace. Of hope. Gnight my sweets.

I should never think
What’s in your heart
What’s in our home
So I won’t

You’ll learn to hate me
But still call me baby
Oh love
So call me by my name

And save your soul
Save your soul
Before you’re to far gone
Before nothing can be done

I’ll try to decide when
She’ll lie in the end
I ain’t got no fight in me
In this whole damn world
So hold off
She should hold off
It’s the one thing that I’ve known

Once I put my coat on
I’m coming out in this all wrong
She’s standing outside holding me
Saying “Oh please,
I’m in love,
I’m in love!”

Girl save your soul
Go on save your soul
Before it’s too far gone
And before nothing can be done

Cause without me
You got it all
So hold on
Without me you got it all
So hold on
Without me you got it all
Without me you got it all
So hold on
Without me you got it all
So hold on
Without me you got it all
So hold on.

Tune Tuesday (Until I can think of a better title)

tune tuesday

“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent”Victor Hugo

I’ve decide that I’m going to post up a video or five every Tuesday morning. I’m a music whore from back in the day. My tastes are eclectic. I may post just about anything. Ska, hip hop, rap, dance, electronica, grunge, pop, classical, opera, show tunes, punk, and the list goes on and on. Strap in babies. It’s going to be fun.

This week I’m posting videos from two women that I admire. Katy Perry is a bubble gum pop star. I’m not into all of her music, but this song echoes in the romantic part of my heart that still breaks from love lost. I dedicate it to L and P. Most especially L. It’s the stripped down version. Acoustic, haunting, and nostalgic. Yes, it makes me cry. Every damn time I listen to it. Every damn time.

The next video is from Serena Ryder. I’m enamored with the smokiness of her voice. It’s wounded, but strong. A young Bonnie Raitt complete with guitar. She’s one not to be fucked with. Stompa makes me want to grind. And believe me honey, I do. In my living room, the dance floor and my car.

Okay, here’s one more. I heard it on the radio and it made me think of an old friend. Love you B.

We’re running with the shadows of the night
So baby take my hand, it’ll be all right
Surrender all your dreams to me tonight
They’ll come true in the end

You said, oh girl, it’s a cold world
When you keep it all to yourself
I said, you can’t hide on the inside
All the pain you’ve ever felt
Ransom my heart, but baby don’t look back
‘Cause we got nobody else

We’re running with the shadows of the night
So baby take my hand, it’ll be all right
Surrender all your dreams to me tonight
They’ll come true in the end

You know that sometimes, it feels like
It’s all moving way too fast
Use every alibi and words you deny
That love ain’t meant to last
You can cry tough, baby
It’s all right
You can let me down easy
But not tonight

We’re running with the shadows of the night
So baby take my hand, it’ll be all right
Surrender all your dreams to me tonight
They’ll come true in the end

A Moment with James and Marilyn

James and Marilyn

Jimmy honey, make yourself useful and get me a glass of champagne., Marilyn gave a wave of her hand and flashed her million dollar smile.

Lynn my sweet, get it your damn self., James muttered.

Oh dear, don’t you know who I am?

Of course my sweet. But don’t you know who I am?

Yes of course dear, however I am better than you. she replied and winked at him.

Whatever my sweet woman, you are merely a beauty.,  he joked.

Honey, I am so much more than that., she chided.

Lynn, of course I know that. You are the most dangerous kind of woman there is. You have brains and beauty.

Her eyes clouded with tears. She gingerly replied, Jimmy I do believe that is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.

He replied with all seriousness on his handsome face., “I mean it Lynn, I do.”

He gets up from his spot on the floor and returns with a rose and glass of champagne. He hands it to the beauty with brains. The alluring Marilyn Monroe. After James Dean is seated, the photographer sets their pose. Before the shutter clicks, they change positions and turn. They make the photo their own. Who are they to be told what to do? The are legends.

Matthew Felkey, My Other Son and Future Broadway Star

http://straighteyeforthetheatreguy.blogspot.com/

https://www.facebook.com/MattFelkeyPage

I have known this young and talented man since he was 12 years old. He and my Meggie were boyfriend and girlfriend for a short time. But even though their twitterpation didn’t last, their friendship did. So much so that he will be her Man of Honor at her wedding in December. He’ll sing at the wedding too. I know it will move me to tears. The rawness of his tenor voice does me in every time I hear him sing. You can feel the lyrics as they pour from his heart, lungs, and mouth. It just blows me away. Brings me to my knees.

I’ve heard him sing in my living room. I’ve heard him sing in almost every damn show that Tecumseh Youth Theater has ever put on during his middle and high school years. I’ve heard him sing in every damn choir that Tecumseh High School has. And I’ve even heard him sing original music in a smoky bar with his band. He’s stuck right now. He wants so badly to be in New York City. He wants to be a star. He has the potential to be just that. I believe it with every fiber of my being. This man, this beautiful young man. With the voice of an angel, will be a star. He can act, he can dance, he writes stories, he writes lyrics and music, he plays piano, and guitar. Hell, I think he can do anything.

In the comments section of his first blog entry I told him this:

I still remember sitting in the theater watching you sing this song. The tears came and streamed down my face. Roger Darling looked over at me and smiled. He knew that I wasn’t only crying because the song was so beautiful, and I love your voice, but it’s also because I’m so proud of you. I know your talent. Roger, Meg, Adam, and I are your family. Your family is our family and we love each other. Can’t imagine not having all of you in our lives. Honey get the hell out of here and go to NYC. You’re going to make it! Love you my dear other son.

The video  isn’t the best quality but you can hear the feeling in his voice. You can feel the pain in his heart as he sings of his love for Aida. This woman he can never be with. Because of war, slavery of a people and hate. She is a princess and he a prince but because of war there is no future for them. Radames and Aida are sentenced to death and placed in a tomb together. They are deprived of light and air, but not of  their love.  He vows to look for her over 100 lifetimes to find her. So that he can love her again. At the end of the musical, we are transported back to the present in a museum and a young man and woman viewing the artifacts of the ancient time of Aida and Radames. It turns out that they really did find each other after many lifetimes of searching. In a museum displaying ancient artifacts of an incredible love. A love that didn’t die even when the two lovers suffocated in a tomb.

What resonates with me most is not Matt’s singing during the show, which was heart wrenching and exemplary. But it was his dialogue when he and Aida were in the tomb preparing to die. His words tore my heart out. It was the way he said them that made them feel so incredibly real. He transformed into Radames. He was no longer Matt, but a prince vowing undying love to his princess.

I pray for him. I pray for him to find his way. I know he will. I know I will sit in the audience on the opening night of his first starring role. I know we will be there with his family and we will be in awe of him again. As will the rest of the audience. I know in my heart of hearts, he will win the hearts of millions. I feel it in my bones.

AIDA
It’s so dark.

RADAMES
Give me your hand. I’m right here with you. There is another world waiting
for us, Aida. I can feel it. The way I always knew there was a world beyond
every bend in the Nile. Just waiting to be discovered.

AIDA
You will find me in that world?

RADAMES
If I have to search for a hundred life times, I will find you again, Aida.

One Song Glory (RENT)

I’m Turning in my Music Whore Card

As long as you love me
We could be starving
We could be homeless
We could be broke

As long as you love me
I’ll be your platinum
I’ll be your silver
I’ll be your gold

I have always fancied myself to be a music whore. I don’t usually like mainstream music. I mean, I do, but I like the obscure shit too. And don’t get me started on 80’s music. Love 80’s music! I’m not much of a pop princess. I think most of it is drivel.  And annoying! And loud! I’m all for loud, but the music has to be good.

Imagine my chagrin when I started singing along to a Justin Bieber tune. I have a real problem with parents that pimp out their kids and make them superstars at such a young age. I don’t believe he gets the chance to be a normal kid. I mean he appeals to young girls that really don’t know what good music is yet. All the while missing out on his childhood and teenage years. I don’t think it’s fair.

For some reason the song, As Long as You Love Me has become a lovely ear worm. When it comes on the radio, I crank it up. The chorus is the hook, for sure. It resonates with me. The lyrics are simple. Thus why they appeal to me. It kills me that the Biebs is the person singing it. Why can’t Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day sing the song? Or Max Bemis from Say Anything. Why, oh why does it have to be Justin? And why, oh why do I have to like it so much? I even like Big Sean’s part and I HATE rap unless it’s Tupac!

So today I will admit that I like a Bieber song. It does not mean that I’m going to follow him on the road. Because, well, that would be super creepy! And I promise, promise, promise that I will never, ever write about Justin Bieber again! Please take my music whore card and give it to someone more deserving. Thank you.

I don’t know if this makes sense but
You’re my hallelujah
Give me a time and place
I’ll rendezvous it
I’ll fly it to it
I’ll beat you there
Girl you know I got you
